Ending the Operational Excellence module on a high note, the current Executive MBA class had the opportunity to meet with Dr. Yves Bolduc, Member of the National Assembly for Jean-Talon and former Minister of Health and Social Services. Together with  Professor Sylvain Landry, Director, International Projects at HEC Montréal he discussed Lean management in the healthcare context.

Dr Yves Bolduc shared with the class his vision and the steps he took as Minister of Health to introduce Lean Management in the Quebec healthcare system. He has worked with universities across the province to set up training programs in Lean Management for the health care sector and he is a tireless advocate for this approach to improving health care while reining in costs. Lean means working smarter, and thereby be able to get more done without increasing resources. He also outlined the lessons learned from the flagship Lean institutions of Quebec.

According to the Association Québécoise des établissements de santé et de services sociaux, Lean Thinking is defined as: An approach to the redesign of complex processes that can help modern businesses to reposition themselves and improve their performance, cost management and the security and flexibility of their production processes.

The class sincerely appreciated Dr. Bolduc’s participation in their program at HEC Montreal; his experiences were a great practical example of applying the concepts of the Operational Excellence module for which the objectives are to aim for business excellence, optimize financial decisions and IT resources.
