Helmut Herold, a McGill-HEC Montreal Executive MBA graduate, has accepted a new challenge: to start up a new renewable energy unit in a new market: South America. Suzlon Group, an international leader in wind power technology with operations in 18 countries, has named Helmut CEO South America – Latam.

He will be based in Buenos Aires and will be responsible for other key Spanish speaking markets like Chile, Peru, Colombia, and Mexico.

With over ten years of experience in a leading global manufacturer of onshore and offshore wind turbines, his ability to speak 6 languages (German, Chinese, English, French, Portuguese and Spanish) and his engineering and EMBA diplomas, Helmut is ideally suited for the role.

“The EMBA was indeed very helpful”, explained Helmut when we reached him to congratulate him. “In particular, the Worldly Mindset module in Argentina.  The great interactions I had with several local and Canadian companies working in Argentina helped me to build up the confidence that I am ready for this step. In fact, the module in Argentina made me more curious about how it would be to manage a new team through the ups and downs of this country’s particular economic and political environment. Combined with the acquired understanding and the experience of my last 8 years of work in Canada, Argentina becomes the ultimate test field to convert market challenges into opportunities. The network developed in Canada will also be very useful as there are more connections and interest towards South America than one might think.”
