In addition to completing the McGill-HEC Montréal EMBA in 2015, over the last two decades Claire Hayek has held roles in various fields as an engineer, team leader, and project manager as well as being an entrepreneur and a singer-songwriter. Her diverse experiences and the challenges she has faced, as well as the reflections she has continued since her EMBA, inspired her to create MSP Teambuilding. Her company’s mission is to use the power of arts, music and social initiatives to stimulate collaboration, creativity, and innovation within its clients’ teams, and she has captured these experiences and her insights in “Motivate & Mobilize Your Team.”, her newly published book.

The book tackles various subjects such as the intergenerational gap, bottom-up corporate culture, the cyclical yo-yo effect of team-building activities as well as how to improve relationships with employees and corporate social responsibility.

“I wrote this book to demystify the challenges of managers and leaders in terms of employee motivation and commitment of their employees. Based on my observations and my experience, the majority of leaders follow the same mobilization techniques which generate the desired effect in the short term, but which often fail in the long term.  This forces them to repeat the process and start over from scratch. I wanted to share simple and effective tools using a different approach that has proven to get leaders the results they need in terms of team mobilization. ”

Although the book was written before the current crisis, the tools it shares are also applicable in a remote work setting. In fact, Claire and her team at MSP Teambuilding have developed a program specially designed to help leaders motivate and engage their teams virtually.

“One thing that helped me throughout the writing process was my experience writing the EMBA final paper. It helped me organize my thoughts into concise and relevant information, always keeping in mind how to create value for the reader. Using the tools learnt from all modules was more than essential to bring this book to life.”
