Suzanne Gagnon (EMBA 2018) appointed National Director, Offer Evolution at Sobeys Inc. Suzanne Gagnon is in the last phase of the McGill-HEC Montréal EMBA program: writing her final paper. A few months before her graduation, which is scheduled for February 2018, she has been appointed National Director, Offer Evolution at Sobeys Inc. Suzanne was chosen by Sobeys to do our program, and it is clear that they had plans for her. Suzanne has been working for Sobeys for over 20 years. She started as category manager, and has developed an expertise in product development and merchandizing for the Canadian supermarket chain. In her new role, she will be responsible for innovation and development for all Sobeys’ markets and in all product categories found in supermarkets “and maybe some that are not there yet!” added Suzanne, obviously very excited by this new nationwide challenge.

Catherine Dagenais appointed COO, SAQ

Catherine Dagenais, current EMBA participant, is promoted Vice-President and COO of SAQ The Société des Alcools du Québec (SAQ) is like a second home to Catherine Dagenais. She’s worked there in various capacities for the last fifteen years, and her experience will be put to very good use going forward.  The Board of Directors of the SAQ recently confirmed Catherine’s appointment to Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer.  In this new role, she will provide leadership and direction for all of the organization’s operations related to marketing, sales channels, and supply chain, including the important evolution to omni-channel operations.  At the same time, since last September, Catherine has been a member of the McGill-HEC Executive MBA Program, which has been a good fit for her evolution: "Throughout the year, the McGill - HEC Montreal EMBA has prepared me to take on this new role. My final paper will allow me to help our supply chain evolve,"says Catherine.

Antoinette Noviello named VP, Corporate Controller, Vidéotron

Antoinette Noviello named Vice-President, Corporate Controller at Vidéotron After serving for over 10 years as part of the Quebecor family, Antoinette Noviello has recently been promoted to Vice-President, Corporate Controller at Videotron. "Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, Antoinette will leverage her acute strategic sense to lead her sector to new heights of success. She brings to this task not only extensive experience in business but also a vast store of in-depth knowledge of finance, accounting, controllership, and management. She is also known for her energy and her skill in transforming." details Videotron’s official press release. Antoinette started the EMBA McGill-HEC Montréal last September. She will complete this challenge in December 2017, but which it is already yielding results. As Vice-President, Corporate Controller, she will take charge of all Videotron's financial and accounting activities, and will oversee the organization's governance, compliance, and regulatory standards.

Sébastien Grimard appointed Executive Vice President at Grimard

Sébastien Grimard, current EMBA McGill-HEC Montréal participant  is appointed Executive Vice President at Grimard After completing his bachelors and masters degrees in engineering and spending a few years in consulting, in 2007 Sébastien Grimard joined the family business. Grimard is a firm specialized in the fields of electricity, general construction, automation, instrumentation and power manufacturing and telecommunications. Nearly ten years later, as he is completing the McGill-HEC Montréal EMBA program, Sébastien has been appointed Executive Vice-President. Sébastien will now be responsible for helping the company achieve its financial goals and improve its operational performance. He will work on the organization’s strategy (strategic thinking, partnerships, development and special projects), on corporate leadership (health and safety mobilization, communication, tactical plans and improvement projects) as well as on talent development (learning communities, business processes). "What I have learned up to now in the EMBA McGill-HEC Montréal program has directly enabled me to take this Executive VP role and thus help the company in its growth plan. The strategic thinking method learned in the program gives me a more global perspective of our company, our markets, and the economy in which we operate."        

Promotion for Isabelle Valois at Henkel

Isabelle Valois has recently been promoted to Director of Market Intelligence for North America at Henkel Isabelle Valois started the EMBA McGill-HEC Montréal in September 2016 and has recently been promoted to Director of Market Intelligence for North America at Henkel. These new responsibilities will be added to her current role as Head of Canada Marketing for Henkel Corporation, Loctite Adhesive Technologies. She will continue to be part of the General Industry North American Marketing Organization at Henkel. Henkel is a German multinational company active both in the consumer and industrial sector with leading brands & technologies in three business areas: Laundry & Home Care, Beauty Care and Adhesive Technologies. “I strongly believe that this promotion is directly linked to my participation in the great EMBA program offered by McGill and HEC Montréal,” said Isabelle.

Call for Nominations: EMBA McGill-HEC Montreal Scholarship for Managers of Indigenous Origin Montreal - March 30, 2017 - The application period for the 2017 EMBA McGill-HEC Montréal Scholarship for Managers of Indigenous Origin is open. The EMBA is a 15-month bilingual Executive MBA program, in English and French, designed for managers and entrepreneurs to develop their management and leadership knowledge while remaining in their jobs. This $ 50,000 scholarship, offered annually, supports managers of indigenous origin in Canada as they pursue their academic and professional journey. "Diversity of experience and perspective is one of the core values of our program. Facilitating the presence of these scholarship recipients in the classroom is therefore very important because they bring different perspectives and experiences. However, since the launch of this scholarship program, in December 2013, we have received very few applications. We really hope to receive more in the coming years, "explains Professor Alain Pinsonneault, co-director of the McGill-HEC Montréal Executive MBA. 4 reasons why the EMBA decided to launch a Toastmasters club

"You can be trained by the best communication specialists, read all the books on the subject and watch the best speakers in action, but if you really want to improve, you have to practice," says Michel Filion. “And that’s what Toastmasters focuses on." The McGill-HEC Montreal EMBA Program has been expanding its focus on how to communicate effectively, at the suggestion of its graduates.  Early February marked an important step on this road with the launch of the EMBA EMBA McGill-HEC Montréal Toastmasters club, dedicated to its participants and alumni.  Here are four reasons why: 1) Mastering the art of speaking effectively in public is a must for today's leaders. Much of a manager’s job involves communicating. Being able to communicate effectively will help managers gain credibility, rally teams behind them, convey objectives and expectations effectively, avoid confusion and defuse stressful workplace scenarios, among other things. 2) A proven program Toastmasters International (TMI) is an international non-profit organization dedicated to helping its members improve their communication and leadership skills through public speaking. Since 1924, Toastmasters has helped people with different backgrounds become more confident speakers, better communicators and leaders. The program has more than 345,000 members worldwide. At Toastmasters, everyone has a role to play. Participants can perform a 5 to 7 minutes prepared speech or be invited to improvise a one-to-two-minute speech on an imposed subject, without preparation or time for reflection. Managing in the non-profit sector and managing in the Arctic : 4 Key Learnings

This year’s McGill-HEC Montréal Executive MBA scholarship recipients presented what it is like to do business in their respective environments to their classmates. Leanne Bayer, the Executive Director of West Island Community Shares (WICS), spoke about her extensive experience in the non-profit sector and particularly of her ten years in Burundi, where she arrived shortly after the end of the civil war. Jason Annahatak, Director of the Kativik School Board, Post-Secondary Student Services, spoke about Nunavik and the Inuit culture and way-of-life, sharing advice on how to do business in the Arctic.

Liette Vigneault —Among the best in her profession, she still wants to learn

Liette Vigneault, Vice President, Human Resources and Communications at Cogeco Connexion has been named to the prestigious Top 25 HR Professionals in Canada, as chosen by Canadian HR Reporter. Maxime Blais is moving up at SAQ – Already a promotion within the latest EMBA cohort

Maxime Blais is moving up at SAQ - Already a promotion within the latest EMBA cohort Maxime Blais began the EMBA McGill-HEC Montreal a few weeks ago as one of the youngest participants in his class. He's already proving the program recruitment team right in their belief that despite his age, he had the leadership and experience necessary to join this program for seasoned executives and entrepreneurs.  On the first day of class, Maxime Blais announced to his new classmates that he had just been promoted to director of the Montreal West / Vaudreuil region at SAQ. He has been working at SAQ since 2004, most recently, as director of the largest SAQ outlet in Montreal – the Atwater store.
