Topics include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The state of the planet and its peoples, and why it matters to managers<\/li>\n<li>The environmental, social and economic pillars of sustainability<\/li>\n<li>Envisioning and critical thinking<\/li>\n<li>Environmental and social investments that yield competitive advantage<\/li>\n<li>Enhancing\u00a0shared\u00a0value creation<\/li>\n<li>Avoiding value destruction<\/li>\n<li>Strategic\u00a0corporate social responsibility<\/li>\n<li>Engaging and collaborating with stakeholders<\/li>\n<li>Social innovation &amp; entrepreneurship<\/li>\n<li>Measuring social and environmental performance<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>The Classification<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.embamcgillhec.ca\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/05\/Niveau3.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-9006\" alt=\"Niveau3\" src=\"http:\/\/www.embamcgillhec.ca\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/05\/Niveau3-237x300.jpg\" width=\"237\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.embamcgillhec.ca\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/05\/Niveau3-237x300.jpg 237w, http:\/\/www.embamcgillhec.ca\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/05\/Niveau3-812x1024.jpg 812w, http:\/\/www.embamcgillhec.ca\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/05\/Niveau3.jpg 928w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 237px) 100vw, 237px\" \/><\/a>To ensure the program practices what it teaches, we are seeking to have the module classified as an eco-friendly event by the\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/evenementecoresponsable.com\/?lang=en\"><em>Conseil qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois \u00e9v\u00e9nement \u00e9coresponsable<\/em><\/a><\/strong> (<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bnq.qc.ca\/en\/certif\/detail_programme\/detail_9700-253.html\">Standard BNQ 9700-253<\/a><\/strong>). The classification levels go from level 1 to level 5, with the latter being the highest. The program has committed to attaining a level 3 classification. This classification entails a review of the event\u2019s associated waste management (less than 100 grams of pure waste &#8211; non-recyclable and non-compostable waste &#8211; per person, per day), energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions from transportation (we encourage our student and staff to use sustainable methods of transportation during the module), supplier practices and food selection. That means over 90% of our residual materials did not end up in a landfill, compared to our target of 80%.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, we have calculated the emissions produced by our event and our participants\u2019 transportation and chose to double-offset these emissions by tree planting. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zeroco2.com\/\">ZEROCO<sub>2<\/sub><\/a> \u00a0is a company which assists organizations with various projects in order to tackle climate change, as well as developing efforts to reduce and offset the GHG emissions. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zeroco2.com\/\">ZEROCO<sub>2<\/sub><\/a> redusces CO<sub>2<\/sub> emissions through tree planting, which creates huge carbon wells. We chose <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zeroco2.com\/\">ZEROCO<sub>2<\/sub><\/a> because sustainable plantation management is one of their priorities and because they will carefully monitor the \u00a0trees and ensure optimal conditions for each tree species.<\/p>\n<h3><a href=\"http:\/\/www.embamcgillhec.ca\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/05\/CertificatZCO2_MSCMcGill_2014.jpg\"><strong>See the GHG offsetting certificate.<\/strong><\/a><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Module The EMBA McGill-HEC Montr\u00e9al is introducing a new module this year: The Sustainability Challenge.
