On June 22nd Alain Pinsonneault, co-director of the EMBA McGill-HEC Montréal, will be inducted into the Ordre national du Québec, by Prime Minister Philippe Couillard, as a Chevalier (Knight) of the Ordre. This is the most highest honour that the Government of Québec awards to a citizen.
Professor Pinsonneault receives this award in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Québec’s reputation internationally (from his research contributions internationally) and his contribution in making the Information Systems (IS) area of Desautels and McGill one of the top in the IS field worldwide. The nomination also recognizes Alain’s contributions to Québec society through the creation of a unique, bilingual, world-class EMBA program (jointly with HEC Montréal) that has significant impacts on managers and organizations in Québec and beyond.
In the official press release, the Prime Minister underlined, “The Ordre national du Québec enables us once again this year to highlight the journeys and the accomplishments of a group of exceptional Quebecers. I feel immense pride as I see the tremendous talent and engagement of these new members. Every one of these talented women and men are leaders in their fields. I believe it’s appropriate, even necessary, that we express to them our recognition in this way by underlining their contributions towards advancing our society.”
The induction ceremony, on June 22nd at 15.00, will be televised live, and will be re-broadcast on Sunday the 26th of June at 20.00. It will be available on the National Assembly Channel (illico 176, normal cable 11, or online on the National Assembly’s website.

Alain Pinsonneault est peut-être le chercheur canadien le plus renommé internationalement en ce qui a trait aux impacts des technologies de l’information (TI) sur les organisations et à la numérisation de l’économie. Par sa notoriété et son dynamisme, ce professeur a permis d’inscrire les TI au cœur même de l’enseignement et de la recherche de la Faculté de gestion Desautels de l’Université McGill. Sa contribution dans la sphère universitaire concourt à positionner la Faculté Desautels et l’Université McGill comme un leader mondial de la recherche sur les TI.
Alain est né à Saint-Jean-Sur-Richelieu en 1961. Il est titulaire d’un baccalauréat en commerce (1983) de l’Université Concordia, d’une maîtrise en sciences de la gestion (1986) de HEC Montréal et d’un doctorat en administration (1990) de la University of California.
Après avoir enseigné neuf ans à HEC Montréal, il se joint au corps professoral de l’Université McGill en 1999 et occupe la chaire de recherche Imasco. Dès 2005, il est fait professeur titulaire et obtient la chaire James McGill. En 2010, il devient membre de la prestigieuse Société Royale du Canada. En 2014 il est nommé ‘Fellow of the Association for Information Systems’.
Chercheur très actif, il étudie l’impact qu’ont les TI dans différents secteurs de l’économie. Il s’intéresse également à la numérisation de l’économie, à la gestion des TI, aux réseaux sociaux, à l’intelligence d’affaires, et à la cybersanté. Sa recherche a, au Québec, des répercussions tangibles sur les pratiques de gestion des entreprises de tous les secteurs.
Alain a développé et fondé, avec un collègue de HEC Montréal, le programme EMBA McGill – HEC Montréal, dont il sera le codirecteur à partir de 2005 et bien après son lancement officiel en 2008. Ce programme, très fréquenté, connaît un grand rayonnement et se classe, après huit ans seulement, parmi les meilleurs au monde.
