Patrick Bolduc, a 2017 McGill-HEC Montréal EMBA graduate, has recently taken on the new role of Manager, Hydrocarbons, Explosives, Natural Gas & Services – Atlantic at Rio Tinto. He’s thrilled about his return to Rio Tinto, where he worked from 2011-2015, because his new role gives him global responsibilities, with teams in Africa and the Americas.  He’s confident about the fit, because he shares the company’s values and feels a real sense of belonging to Rio Tinto.

This move continues Patrick’s evolution from a technical specialist into a manager who leads a group of experts.  The EMBA McGill-HEC continues to play a role in his development, as he notes, “Having a team of experts reporting to me forces me to reflect much more than I ever did before. I start every day with a morning reflection. I actually write in the reflection book the program gave us when we graduated’’.  Reflection is an integral part of the EMBA program, with every day starting with both personal and shared reflections.

Patrick is also drawing on the learnings acquired during the Worldly Mindset Module. He observes, “I manage operations and staff that operate in very different environments, and the EMBA gave me the tools necessary to understand different contexts, and most importantly, a methodology on how to do so rigorously’’.

We wish Patrick all the best in this new role, in which he is continuing his evolution as a leader. In his own words, “My decisions are much more strategic and less tactical and operational as compared to what I did in the past’’.
