Sean Sefsik, a 2017 McGill-HEC Montréal EMBA graduate, was recently promoted to General Manager, at Québec-Gatineau Railway (Genesee & Wyoming Canada).

As General Manager, Sean shares: ‘at the Québec-Gatineau Railway our objective mirrors that of our parent company Genesee & Wyoming Inc, in that we strive to be the safest and most respected transportation service provider in the world’. His responsibility is in ensuring that all of their employees keep this objective at the forefront of their minds on a daily basis and that they deliver what they promise.  He continues by saying that it is important, as a Canadian shortline, to prove to all their stakeholders (including the customers and the communities through which they operate), that railways are not a thing of the past, but are in fact the way of the future.

As he looks back on his time in the EMBA McGill-HEC Montréal, he states ‘The program taught me first and foremost the importance of reflection – both personal and professional.  By taking more time to reflect, I have become much less reactionary and much more strategic in my management style. Operational Excellence and Value Creation continue to be modules that have an impact on how I measure the success of both our team’s daily decision-making and our performance as a whole.’
