Rache Martin EMBA 2024

The program is proud to announce that Rachel Martin is one of the two 2022 recipients of the 50 000$ EMBA Scholarship for Managers of Indigenous Origin.

Rachel Martin is Micmac from Restigouche/Listuguj and works as Capital Assets Manager for the Cree Nation Government. With over twelve years of management experience and  a certificate from the Indigenous Business Management program at McGill University’s School of Continuing Studies, Rachel started the McGill-HEC Montréal EMBA program in September 2022.

Throughout her career, Rachel has shown great determination and put into practice her natural leadership, her analytical sense, but above all, her great creativity. Despite her impressive journey, Rachel is ready for what’s next:

“Upon reflecting on my 12+ years of management experience, I was proud of what I accomplished, but was still left with a gnawing question: “If I could do all of this with no education, what could I accomplish if I were educated?”. The rewards of money and prestige had placated me into pushing that burning question aside, however in recent years, it has bubbled to the surface, making me realize I needed to see what was behind that door. […] I want to learn from the best teachers and the best students, to get a feel for what success looks like, so I can create my own.”

The McGill-HEC Montréal EMBA program is demanding, and the participants need fit the program into already busy work and personal lives. As a mother of three, it will be a daily challenge to integrate class hours, homework, and readings, but Rachel keeps in mind what her mother, who raised seven children, always told her:

“You accomplish things when you decide failure isn’t an option.”

It is with this steadfast determination to succeed that Rachel embarks on the EMBA McGill-HEC Montréal.

Micmac from Restigouche/Listuguj :

The Mi’gmaq Creation story tells of the formation of Mi’gma’gi, and the creation of its seven districts. Listuguj is located in Gespe’gewa’gi (“The Last Land”), the seventh and largest district of Mi’gma’gi. Gespe’gewa’gi has been Mi’gmaq and Listugujewaq traditional territory since time immemorial. It includes what is now known as the Gaspé Peninsula, parts of mainland Québec and Maine, and northeastern New Brunswick.
