Biographie
Temirmalilik was born and raised in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, where he began his career as an audit intern at KPMG in 1996. After transferring to the IT consulting department in 1997, he helped Uzbek banks upgrade their IT infrastructure and transition to modern commercial banking. In 2001, Temirmalik joined a UK-based investment fund to oversee the establishment and operations of the country’s first private telecommunications company, which focused on making international telephone calls affordable through prepaid calling cards. He grew the company to a team of over 150 people and over 15,000 distribution points before pursuing formal management training.
In 2006, Temirmalik was accepted to Harvard University’s ALM program and founded TransAtlantCom, a telecommunications company that offered a cloud-based back-end platform to prepaid card operators. He then joined the newly-founded management consulting arm of KPMG in Moscow called Strategy Group in 2010, where he focused on developing strategies for foreign companies entering the Russian market and Russian companies expanding to global markets.
After spending over four years in management consulting, Temirmalik decided to return to his entrepreneurial roots. While traveling in the Republic of Northern Macedonia, he saw significant opportunities to improve financial inclusion in the country and set up PayNet, a payment company aimed at bridging the gap between the local cash and global digital econnomies. In 2017, he exited PayNet and moved to Canada with his family, where he joined Holt Fintech Accelerator as Head of Programs, leveraging his experience as a former FinTech startup founder.
In 2019, Temirmalik partnered with UK-based payment company Paysend Group to set up a payment company in Canada. He is currently the Country Manager of Paysend in Canada and the Managing Director of Paysend CA Limited, a Canadian entity licensed by FINTRAC and AMF. His responsibilities include full P&L management, strategic and operational planning, oversight of local compliance and marketing activities, and product roadmap management.

Quels conseils donneriez-vous à quelqu’un qui considère se lancer dans l’aventure EMBA?
- Come open-minded and be ready to learn from your peers, no matter how crazy their ideas might sound first.
- Have at least 15 (+/-) years of work experience so that your peers could learn from you too.
- As we get « wiser » (aka older) it’s more difficult for us to get new true friends. This is one of those rare opportunities where you can. Stay open and build new frienships.
