In the fall of 2019, Professor Alain Pinsonneault, one of the founding Academic Directors of the EMBA McGill-HEC Montréal, received two very prestigious honours: he received the First-ever Henry Mintzberg PhD Teaching and Mentorship Award and was nominated as a Distinguished James McGill Professor.

The Henry Mintzberg PhD Teaching and Mentorship Award

Professor Pinsonneault received the inaugural Henry Mintzberg PhD Teaching and Mentorship Award, which is voted on by PhD students and alumni, in recognition of his high-quality teaching and commitment to student progress.  The award was created in 2018 to recognize Professor Henry Mintzberg’s 50 years of service to McGill.

Distinguished James McGill Professor (DJMP)

Professor Pinsonneault was named a Distinguished James McGill Professor, in recognition of exceptional work and outstanding achievements.

Professor Pinsonneault’s research focuses on the management of information technologies and their impacts on the performance of organizations, groups, and individuals in different sectors including banking, manufacturing, and health. His current work concentrates on the digital economy, user reactions to new information technologies, social networks, and e-health.

Professor Pinsonneault’s work is widely-acclaimed both nationally and internationally. He has received 17 research awards and recognitions, including nine best paper awards. He has held honorary positions at various universities, including Queen’s University, McMaster University, and the University of Hawaii. He is also heavily involved in graduate supervision and various program committees. He has supervised or co-supervised eight post-doctoral and 20 doctoral students so far.

The Distinguished James McGill Professor (DJMP) designation is awarded to Professors who have held James McGill Professorships for two seven-year terms while maintaining an outstanding research record, or who have held a Canada Research Chair (Tier 1) for two seven-year terms. DJMP awardees hold the distinction until retirement, and those granted Emeritus status retain the title.
