Filion_Gaétan_opt (1)“The EMBA made me a top candidate,” says Dr. Gaétan Filion, a 2015 EMBA McGill-HEC Montréal alumnus, following his nomination as President of the Transitional Council of Physicians, Dentists and Pharmacists (CMDP) of the Integrated Health and Social Services Centre of the Montérégie-West region (IHSSC-MO). This committee has been created as a result of the application of Law 10 concerning the transformation of Quebec’s health network, as recently undertaken by the government.

The CMDP of the Montérégie-West IHSSC consists of all doctors, dentists and pharmacists practicing in the institution, which represents more than 500 healthcare professionals. As Chairman, Dr. Filion acts as an advisor on various issues affecting the organization of services and departments, policy and regulatory issues. He will also give his input on any other issues brought to his attention, and he supervises several committees and sub –committees. He is also responsible for ensuring good relationships with professional associations and other relevant external organizations.

In his new role, Dr. Filion puts into practice knowledge he acquired in the McGill-HEC Montréal EMBA program. In particular, the operational excellence, analytic mindset and collaboration modules serve him every day. He believes his learnings from the EMBA combined with the program’s reputation helped those who elected him to this position to see him as a neutral candidate who was up to the challenges of the CMDP Presidency in a context of transformation.

As President of the CMDP, Dr. Filion assumes significant responsibility, since the CMDP ensures and monitors the quality and relevance of medical, dental and pharmaceutical procedures, assesses the skills of its members and is required to issue recommendations regarding the appointment of physicians, dentists and pharmacists in the institution.
