José Mafra, a McGill-HEC Montréal EMBA 2020 alumnus, recently launched his own consulting firm.  Mafra Business Consulting is focused on connecting humans and businesses across different geographies to help them grow. ”As I reflected on what I could do best moving forward, I decided to leverage my 30+ years of experience worldwide.”

In addition to the launch of Mafra B.C., José has recently joined Groupe 3737 as their Partnership Ambassador for Ontario. Groupe 3737 is an ecosystem of job creation and economic development, created by and for people of diversity. Goupe 3737’s founder is Frantz Saintellemy, one of José’s EMBA classmate.

As exciting as it can be, to start a company from scratch, you need to be willing to take risks. As I look back to what I’ve learned at the EMBA McGill & HEC Montreal, the three things that helped me the most to take that risk:

1 – Getting to know you as a person is a key to becoming a better leader (Reflective Mindset Module);

2 – A company to succeed has to leverage what it does best at its core (Value Creation Module);

3 – Cultural differences can be a competitive advantage if their context is well understood (Worldly Mindset).
