For Marie Pier Germain: it’s all about family and challenges

Marie Pier Germain promoted to Operations Director, Le Groupe Germain Hotels For over ten years, Marie Pier Germain has worked for the family business, Le Groupe Germain Hôtels. Although Le Groupe Germain was co-founded by her mother, Christiane Germain, and her uncle, Jean-Yves Germain, Marie Pier has had to prove herself as a manager and face many challenges before being promoted to Director of Operations. After studying engineering, Marie Pier held several positions within the organization, which is ranked among the 50 best-managed companies in Canada. She began her career in Calgary, contributing to the successful realization of the Hotel Le Germain complex. Next, she managed architects, designers and engineers in the construction and renovation of several Alt and Le Germain hotels. In 2015, a few months after joining the McGill-HEC Montréal EMBA program, she took the helm as General Manager of the Montreal Alt Hotel. The same year she gave birth to her son. Steven Vetrone promoted to District Operations Manager, Home Depot

Steven Vetrone (EMBA 2017) has been promoted to District Operations Manager at The Home Depot Canada In his new role as District Operations Manager, Steven Vetrone (EMBA 2017) will be supporting Home Depot stores in Quebec in meeting their Customer Service, Inventory, and Operational goals. Steven’s ten years of experience as a Store Manager for the home improvement retailer will certainly be very useful since he will be managing operations for the 20+ Home Depot stores in Quebec each covering in average 100,000 square feet and stocking as many as 40,000 home improvement products. It’s a big job, but with his extended knowledge of the organization and having just completed the McGill-HEC Montréal EMBA program Steven feels ready to take up the challenge! “The Executive MBA was a great experience, giving me a broad perspective to better understand our business. There are a lot of changes in the retail industry, and being at The Home Depot has made me understand that having the right tools is especially important. Catherine Dagenais appointed COO, SAQ

Catherine Dagenais, current EMBA participant, is promoted Vice-President and COO of SAQ The Société des Alcools du Québec (SAQ) is like a second home to Catherine Dagenais. She’s worked there in various capacities for the last fifteen years, and her experience will be put to very good use going forward.  The Board of Directors of the SAQ recently confirmed Catherine’s appointment to Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer.  In this new role, she will provide leadership and direction for all of the organization’s operations related to marketing, sales channels, and supply chain, including the important evolution to omni-channel operations.  At the same time, since last September, Catherine has been a member of the McGill-HEC Executive MBA Program, which has been a good fit for her evolution: "Throughout the year, the McGill - HEC Montreal EMBA has prepared me to take on this new role. My final paper will allow me to help our supply chain evolve,"says Catherine.

Antoinette Noviello named VP, Corporate Controller, Vidéotron

Antoinette Noviello named Vice-President, Corporate Controller at Vidéotron After serving for over 10 years as part of the Quebecor family, Antoinette Noviello has recently been promoted to Vice-President, Corporate Controller at Videotron. "Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, Antoinette will leverage her acute strategic sense to lead her sector to new heights of success. She brings to this task not only extensive experience in business but also a vast store of in-depth knowledge of finance, accounting, controllership, and management. She is also known for her energy and her skill in transforming." details Videotron’s official press release. Antoinette started the EMBA McGill-HEC Montréal last September. She will complete this challenge in December 2017, but which it is already yielding results. As Vice-President, Corporate Controller, she will take charge of all Videotron's financial and accounting activities, and will oversee the organization's governance, compliance, and regulatory standards.

Nadim Ladha Promoted Community Manager, RBC

New Community Manager for Outaouais, at RBC: Nadim Ladha (EMBA 2017) With barely enough time to catch his breath after graduating from EMBA McGill-HEC Montréal, and only 10 months after his last promotion, Nadim Ladha has been promoted to Community Manager for the Outaouais Region at RBC Royal Bank. The official announcement of his appointment described Nadim as "an outstanding leader," a person who "stands out at all levels, from employee surveys to his team’s financial results and client surveys" and whose motto is "Be the customers’ first choice". Nadim believes that he is a better manager today, thanks to all he learned from his Executive MBA classmates.  Many of them had more experience than Nadim, and were very open about sharing their insights and experiences.

Sébastien Grimard appointed Executive Vice President at Grimard

Sébastien Grimard, current EMBA McGill-HEC Montréal participant  is appointed Executive Vice President at Grimard After completing his bachelors and masters degrees in engineering and spending a few years in consulting, in 2007 Sébastien Grimard joined the family business. Grimard is a firm specialized in the fields of electricity, general construction, automation, instrumentation and power manufacturing and telecommunications. Nearly ten years later, as he is completing the McGill-HEC Montréal EMBA program, Sébastien has been appointed Executive Vice-President. Sébastien will now be responsible for helping the company achieve its financial goals and improve its operational performance. He will work on the organization’s strategy (strategic thinking, partnerships, development and special projects), on corporate leadership (health and safety mobilization, communication, tactical plans and improvement projects) as well as on talent development (learning communities, business processes). "What I have learned up to now in the EMBA McGill-HEC Montréal program has directly enabled me to take this Executive VP role and thus help the company in its growth plan. The strategic thinking method learned in the program gives me a more global perspective of our company, our markets, and the economy in which we operate."        

CS North America selected for UbiMobility

Laurent Pieraut (EMBA 2010) announces CS North America’s selection for UbiMobility program CS Communications and Systems Canada (now also known as CS North America) was recently selected as one of 2017 startups for the UbiMobility program. Laurent Pieraut, CS North America CEO, graduated from the McGill-HEC Montréal EMBA in 2010, while Program & Business Development Manager Amine Smires will be starting the Executive MBA program this September. UbiMobility is a nine-month acceleration program run by Bpifrance and Business France to give companies in the connected and autonomous car field a leg up in the United States. The program has already proved its worth. The 16 startups selected for the second edition of the program in 2016 raised nearly € 50 million in financing and 11 of them have launched operations in the United States. CS Communications and Systems Canada is developing a software validation method called NADIA which helps to generate test scripts of hundreds of lines of code in seconds, drastically reducing test costs.

Atypic – founded by Pascal Lépine (EMBA 2012) – acquires Leftbank

Pascal Lépine (EMBA 2012), Atypic’s president and founder, announces the acquisition of Leftbank Pascal Lépine, Atypic’s president and founder, who graduated from the EMBA McGill-HEC Montréal in 2012, recently announced the company’s acquisition of Leftbank, a Toronto-based company that specializes in fundraising for charity and non-profit organizations (the plurial sector). “The acquisition of Leftbank consolidates our position as a leading Canadian full-service consulting agency for noplural sectorn-profit and charitable organizations in the plural sector. It marks one more important step in our continual desire to better serve the Quebec and Canadian plural sectors,” explains Pascal in the official press release. Pascal graduated from the EMBA program five years ago but the impact of the EMBA hasn’t diminished: “The EMBA has had an incredible impact on my professional life. Much more than what I had anticipated or even hoped. At the end of the EMBA, inspired by Henry Mintzberg, who supervised my final paper and with whom I maintain strong ties, I decided to change my business model to focus on the plural sector. In the first year following that decision, my business turnover doubled.” says Pascal. The Leftbank acquisition is directly linked to Atypic’s reorientation. John-Sebastien Bignell appointed Senior Director of Operations at Jean Coutu

John-Sebastien Bignell (EMBA 2017) appointed Senior Director of Operations for the Jean Coutu Group John-Sebastien Bignell, a 2017 McGill–HEC Montréal Executive MBA graduate, has been appointed Senior Director of Operations for the Jean Coutu Group. He will be responsible for distribution centre operations, inventory, and transportation operations. The company’s recently opened distribution centre in Varennes is partly automated, and one of John’s challenges will be to increase its overall performance to the level expected by the company while making sure to generate and document knowledge linked to the operation of the centre. “The EMBA greatly contributed to my understanding of the company as a whole and of its environment. This will be a great asset in my new mandate and will give me food for thought and help me structure my strategic analysis. The tools and concepts acquired during the operational excellence module will certainly be central to my new duties. In addition, what I took away from the ‘Catalytic Mindset’ module, especially concerning change management, will be very useful. The McGill–HEC Montreal EMBA helped make me a complete manager and minimize my blind spots. Now I’ll have the opportunity to apply everything I learned and realize my full potential.”

An Award for Cogeco Legal Team

Caroline Dignard (EMBA 2010) and the Cogeco Connexion Legal Team Receive the Best Canadian Legal Department Award Under the leadership of experienced lawyer Caroline Dignard, Vice-President of Legal Affairs and Chief Privacy Officer, a 2010 graduate and a member of the McGill-HEC Montreal EMBA Advisory Committee, the Cogeco Connexion legal team recently received the prestigious Best Canadian Legal Department Award. The award was presented at the annual International General Counsel Awards ceremony at the International Legal Alliance Summit & Awards in New York, which recognizes the best legal, intellectual property and tax services in the world. “Collaboration and commitment to good customer service are the values ​​that guide our team,” said Caroline Dignard in an official press release. “Every day, we strive to maintain close ties with our internal and external business partners, making them valuable allies, serving our clients, whether internal or external.
